New fight, fighter for Contender Series Brazil cards

Andre Muniz has a new opponent for his August bout at Contender Series.

A new match-up is set for one of the Contender Series Brazil cards, and another change has happened.

Andre Muniz (16-4) was originally scheduled to face Daniel Pereira (7-2) in Las Vegas, N.V., on Aug. 9, but Pereira was one of the many fighters forced out of the events with visa issues. Now, “Sergipano” faces Bruno Assis (8-2) in a middleweight bout, sources told MMA Fighting.

The other change brought good news to one fighter at the expense of another athlete receiving bad news.

Henrique Silva wasn’t on the initial list of fighters affected by visa problems, but he should be. Diego Henrique da Silva was the one receiving the call last week that he was out of the event, but apparently the promotion informed the wrong fighter because of their similar names.

Diego Henrique da Silva (8-3, 1 no-contest) still needs an opponent though since Fabio Aguiar was removed from Contender Series Brazil.

Henrique Silva, who will no longer fight, was originally booked against Rodrigo Nascimento, who also had visa problems.

The first changes in the Contender Series Brazil season were first reported by MMA Fighting last week. UFC veterans Luis Henrique da Silva — yes, another fighter with a similar name — and Marcio Alexandre Jr. stepped in to replace Joao Zaiden and Wellington Turman against Johnny Walker and Leonardo Silva, respectively.
